Job Description:

Stanford Health Care- University HealthCare Alliance (UHA) has a new opportunity for Vice President, Strategic Planning & Market Development to join our dynamic team located in our corporate location in Newark, CA (San Francisco/Bay Area).

The Vice President, Strategic Planning and Market Development serves as the Senior Executive with accountability for the organization s strategic planning efforts inclusive of identification and management of UHA s key strategic priorities; business planning diligence, development, and acquisition efforts; and market dynamics and intelligence gathering. The Vice President reports to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of UHA. The Vice President will have direct supervisory responsibility for the Director, Strategic Planning and Development, UHA, and work in close collaboration with the Director, Business Development, UHA. The Vice President role requires strong critical thinking skills combined with the ability to effectively communicate and build relationships. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Vice President will have close working relationships with the Senior Vice President of Operations, UHA, Senior Vice President of Finance, UHA, and other members of the Executive team.

  • Uses C-I-CARE templates and the following components for all communication with patients and staff:

  • COMMUNICATE what you are going to do, how long it will take, and how it will impact the patient
  • ASK permission before entering a room, examining a patient or undertaking an activity
  • RESPOND to patient s questions or requests promptly; anticipate patient needs
  • EXIT courteously with an explanation of what will come next

    • Strategic Planning Lead strategic planning for UHA (1,2,3,4)
      • Drives the development of UHA s annual strategic plan in collaboration with the School of Medicine, SHC, Packard and PCHA and in accordance with Stanford Medicine Integrated Strategic Plan
      • Oversees strategic project management
      • Creates physician needs assessments each year to inform acquisitions, new hires and replacement providers
      • Partners with Medical Group leaders to evaluate all provider recruitment requests to inform the joint UHA, Physician Selection Committee, and Medical Group hiring decisions

    • Business planning diligence, development, and acquisitions (1,2,3,4)
      • Represents Foundation to the external community in initial conversations with potential partners, acquisitions
      • Coordinates all due diligence with various stakeholders across UHA and SHC (including Physician Selection Committee and Faculty leaders)
      • Develops strategic recommendations based on analytics
      • Negotiates with potential partners, acquisition candidates
      • Manages all aspects of deals from inception to closure

    • Market dynamics and intelligence gathering
  • Proactively surfaces market dynamics information to Senior Leadership inclusive of competitor behavior
  • Informs physician liaison and marketing plans based on market intelligence and data gathering

    • All other duties as assigned including department-specific functions and responsibilities (1,2):
  • Performs other duties as assigned and participates in organization projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to safety, P4P s (if applicable), HIPAA and compliance policies.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Healthcare Administration or Business
  • Minimum 5 years business and financial management experience in physician group practice, medical foundation or integrated healthcare delivery system.
  • Master s degree in Finance, Accounting, Healthcare Administration or Business preferred.
